Police Fatally Shoot Double-Amputee

In Houston, Texas there was a 911 call to a group home for the mentally ill. Brian Claunch is in a wheelchair because of a train accident which resulted in both of his legs being amputated.  The police responded to the scene because the schizophrenia-ridden Claunch was being aggressive because someone wouldn't give him cigarettes. The patient apparently had a dangerous weapon clutched in his hand which turned out to be just a pen. According to a police report the patient cornered an officer and thus the other officer shot the patient in the head out of fear. He was pronounced dead immediately at the scene.

iPhone Sets Record (Again)

Another iPhone is setting sales records. On the first day there were 2 million pre-order sales doubling last year's record by the iPhone 4S. The majority of deliveries should be made by September 21st but the demand is so high that some will be delivered in October. The new iPhone is the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever! It has a new Retina display and faster wireless technology. Also, the battery life is also vastly improved and it has a new operating system which runs quicker and more efficient. The actual release date for the iPhone is Friday September 21st. The retail price ranges from $199 (16gb); $299 (32 gb); and $399 (64gb). Look for the iPhone in one of the 356 Apple stores across the U.S.A.

Sign of the Apocalypse

When I was a child my favorite toy was a Gameboy advance, in the future tablets will rule the world. Toys R Us is making a 7 inch tablet for kids only available in store or online! It has a respectable price at $150. It will be kid friendly which includes a rubbery case on the outside that will protect it from drops. Parents can also control the Wi-Fi connection settings and what time the kids can use it. The tablet will have plenty of pre-loaded content aimed towards kids with thousands more available for later download. The release date is slated for October 21 with pre-orders starting this Monday.

7.6 Magnitude Quake Kills 1 Person

On Wednesday September 5th 2012 there was a 7.6 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Costa Rica. The quake was about 87 miles away from Costa Rica's capital. Even though it was a fairly strong earthquake it only killed a woman in her 50s from a heart attack because of the shock. The earthquake was strong enough for tsunami warnings for several warnings but they ceased. The main damage was to the emotional and mental health of the people of Costa Rica. There was also some structural damage to nearby cities including a collapsed bridge. Scientists were predicting a large earthquake in this area for the last several years but they haven't determined if this was the earthquake or not.
